Low budget closet organization hacks
I de clutter and organize my closet every Trip on landing in India. In my recent trip I was determined to de clutter and organize our space on an extremely low budget. Its a skill to implement low budget organization hacks in Switzerland after a lot of trial and error over the past few years.
Last trip to India was a rushed one with a lot of family commitments and weddings so I had very little time to de clutter and do a thorough organization. After doing a whole re-organization in Switzerland last winter, I was fully geared up to tackle it in India. You can skip the post, If you want to watch the video to it
Closet before Organization
This was how parts of the closet was. My sister had no time to put away the clean laundry in its designated place. Plus all those bits and pieces which didn’t belong to the closet have been sort of dumped here. In the corner shelf we had still the baby bed bedding and an old infant car seater which was really cluttering up the space. My first chore as soon as I reached was to sell the old infant seat. But I found that the foam on the clasp on the seat was badly damaged due to the heat. First thing that went into the garbage disposal. There was more to come.
Selling Baby bed and paraphernalia
While decluttering we found still a lot of baby paraphernalia stored away. The main thing which was occupying a whole big storage area was the bedding. We still had the high chair and some diaper changing mat. Finally, posted an advert on 2 online portals. I got a good response on olx We also got a lot of response on quikr too. But I didn’t respond immediately due to a very low price offer. Because the bedding was in good condition, I also wanted a better price. Finally, we found a nice young family who knew the value of our bed after having lived in Germany. (this was all imported from Germany). I sold it for Rs. 2000.- All of it. I know its not much, but I wanted a nice family to have. With that sorted, next came the dreaded Bathroom Under the sink Organisation
Decluttering all the electronic gadgets
This was my husband’s job. We still had a lot of wires and gadgets lurking in one big shelf occupying a lot of space. They were still some from the construction time. My husband finally had the time this trip to de clutter most of it and he stored the tools in just one big carton box.
Bathroom under the sink Organization
Next on my list was to tackle the Bathroom sink and under the sink area. The housekeeper just dumped things there, I can’t blame her. I had no organization hacks in place to keep it clutter free and so this area just got worse. I finally decluttered all those old oils, cleaning supplies etc and sorted out only the most important things that would remain.
End of Cluttered spaces
After 2 days of decluttering the results couldn’t be better.
We gained so many shelf spaces after this huge project. Now all I had to do was implement some organization hacks to keep this clutter free.
I had carried with me just 3 bathroom organizers from IKEA which I didn’t need anymore in Switzerland. All the bed linens fit well into these organizers. We also had a few baskets which I had purchased a couple of years back. So I stored some smaller clothing items into them.
I had purchased a few baskets during my previous visits, so I only needed to buy about 5 baskets that were deep. These these baskets were handy to store some of the other items. I used one such basket to store all the cleaning supplies in the bathroom under the sink area. The whole organization was all done on a very low budget. I must have spent less than Rs. 2000.- for the baskets. Some of them I didn’t even need to use.
