Smoothies have taken our eating habits to a new level in the past few years since we have all those kitchen gadgets. If you are looking for a quick power smoothie recipe then here is one you should try out. When ever I make this smoothie for breakfast, I feel very satiated for many hours, as a result I sometimes skip lunch. If you have a busy day ahead and no time to cook lunch, this smoothie could be the one for you.
Everyone seems to be in a hurry nowadays for a proper meal especially in the mornings. Smoothie is the rage among vegan community especially. I started making smoothies a few years back in the summer months. I used to juice our vegetables and fruits but the pulp would end up in the compost. And so to get the most benefits of fiber from the vegetables and fruits I switched to making smoothies for a while.
Ingredients for Quick power smoothie
I actually wanted to use up all those super foods lurking in my store cupboard. So I soaked up a handful of goji berries, aronia berries together with a few walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds. Ripe bananas and some dry fruits like dates act as sweeteners. In addition to it I added some moringa powder, maca powder and chia seeds along with flax seeds. I will not be buying all these super foods anymore so will just use it up.
Always soak the nuts and dry fruits. The nuts and seeds contain a chemical compound called Phytic Acid which makes it difficult for the nuts to be digested. The phytic acid will act as an anti-nutrient and aid in mal absorption of essential minerals. Home grown and homemade Ingredients.
I also could throw in a few home grown organic celery leaves and sticks along with one tablespoon homemade Yogurt.
Why not to consume Smoothies in Winter
I try to follow the principles of Ayurveda for better health and absorption. To consume too much of raw food will disturb our balance of Vata dosha. I will not go into the full details of Ayurvedic medicine in this blog post . I am not a registered Ayurvedic practitioner. So lets simplify it as, Taking cold and raw food during the winter will disturb our vata dosha (or humors as its known). Winter is a time of Vata- its cold and wet. We are usually unbalanced from nature with cold and wet humors. So in order to be in a state of health its best to consume warm and nourishing foods.
Summer on the other hand is easier on us for smoothies, the weather is hot and we do crave cold foods to balance out the heat. And its easier on our stomachs too. I definitely feel cold the whole day whenever I take smoothies in the winter. I much prefer hot soups to cold smoothies in the winter months.
